The Hon Fabian Gleeson SC accepts appointments as legal expert, arbitrator and mediator.
Fabian has over 45 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer: 12 years as a judge of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, 23 years as Counsel and Senior Counsel, and over 10 years as a solicitor. At the time of his retirement from the Court in May 2025, he was the senior puisne judge on the Court of Appeal.
In his legal career he has been involved in conducting, arguing and determining many commercial cases ranging over a broad range of subjects. These include corporations and insolvency, takeovers and reconstructions, equity and commercial law, general contract law, insurance and reinsurance, and professional liability (auditors and lawyers).
Fabian graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics (1978), a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (1980), and a Master of Laws (1987). He was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1980 and commenced his legal career at Freehill, Hollingdale & Page (now Herbert Smith Freehills and Kramer), where he became a partner in 1985. He was called to the New South Wales Bar in 1991 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2005. He was appointed a judge of appeal of the NSW Court of Appeal on 29 April 2013. He retired from the Court on 9 May 2025.
